A Look At The Four Typical Steps In The Residential Dumpster Rental Process

Renting a dumpster can sure simplify a lot of everyday projects for homeowners. Whether you're doing a landscape overhaul, a cleanout, or a renovation, these waste receptacles are ideal. Take a look at the four typical steps in the dumpster rental process.

1. The Initial Call for Dumpster Rental

The first part of the process will be placing a call to the dumpster rental company to get the receptacle you need. You will likely be asked a series of questions during this phone call, such as:

  • What it is that you have planned to do that requires a dumpster
  • If you have a certain size of dumpster you believe you will need
  • Where you are located and where the dumpster should be parked

It is always a good idea to reserve your dumpster in advance if at all possible to ensure you get the unit in time.

2. Dumpster Delivery at Your Home

The next part of the process will be the delivery process, which is rather straightforward but does require a bit of prior planning and preparation. First of all, it is wise to check with local ordinances to see if you will need to get a dumpster permit. Once you've cleared that, pick an area on your property that will work out best for dumpster delivery. In general, it is best to stick with a hard surface, such as an asphalt driveway, but a gravel drive or a curbside will be fine too. Pick a spot where a bigger vehicle can get in rather easily. For example, you shouldn't plan on having the unit placed where there is a lot of low-hanging tree limbs.

3. Filling the Dumpster During Your Project

This is the easy part as far as rental goes but where the work likely begins for you. As you work on whatever project you are completing, place your items in the dumpster for safe-keeping. It is always a good idea to layer waste with the larger, heavier items on the bottom if at all possible. Also, stick to any guidelines offered by the rental company about what can or can't go in the dumpster.

4. Dumpster Pickup After Project Completion

Once you are done with your dumpster fill-up process, simply make a call and the dumpster will be retrieved. If you have arranged for a pre-determined pickup date, you can eliminate this step of the process. The pick-up truck will arrive on the scheduled date.
